How to Use the CSV Template Editor & Converter
Welcome! This tool allows you to easily standardize your CSV files. You can create a template by renaming, deleting, adding, and reordering columns, and then apply that template to a single file or a large batch of files, exporting them as either new CSVs or JSON files.
Phase 1: Create Your Template
This is where you define the final structure for your files.
1. Upload a Template File
-
Click the first “Choose File” button under Step 1.
-
Select a single CSV file from your computer that has a structure similar to what you want. The tool will read the column headers from this file.
-
The column names will automatically appear in the editor box below.
2. Edit Your Columns Once the columns appear, you have several options:
-
Rename a Column: Simply click inside any text box and type a new name.
-
Delete a Column: Click the red (X) button to the right of any column you want to remove.
-
Reorder Columns: Click and hold a column, then drag it up or down to a new position in the list.
-
Add a New Column: Click the “Add Column” button. A new, blank column will appear at the bottom with a green background so you can easily identify it. Fill in its name.
3. Save the Template
-
Once you are happy with your column layout, click the “Save Template” button.
-
You will see a confirmation alert, and the upload button in Step 2 will become active. Your template is now ready to be used.
Phase 2: Process Your Files
Now you can apply your saved template to one or more files.
1. Choose an Export Format
-
Use the dropdown menu to select whether you want your final files to be in CSV or JSON format.
2. Upload Your Files for Conversion
-
Click the “Choose File” button under Step 2.
-
You can select a single CSV file or multiple files at once (hold down
CtrlorShifton your keyboard while selecting).
3. Watch the Progress
-
As soon as you select your files, the processing begins automatically.
-
A progress bar will appear, showing you which file is being processed and your overall progress through the batch.
4. Download Your Files
-
As each file is converted, your browser will automatically trigger a download for it. The new files will be named
updated-original-filename.csv(or.json). -
If you are processing a large batch, you may need to approve multiple downloads in your browser.
Tips & Notes
-
Processing the Same Files Again: After a batch is finished, you can immediately process the same files again with a different export format (e.g., switch from CSV to JSON). The tool resets itself after each run.
-
Browser Pop-up Blockers: If you are processing many files, your browser might ask for permission to download multiple files at once. Make sure to “Allow” this if prompted.
